Global Roundtable Takes Stock of Successes, Challenges in Implementing PRTRs
November 2013: At the Global Roundtable on Pollutant Release and Transfer Registers (PRTRs), participants discussed successes and challenges in implementing the PRTR Protocol to the Convention on Access to Information, Public Participation in Decision-making and Access to Justice in Environmental Matters (Aarhus Convention), as well as other PRTRs in place or being developed outside the Protocol context. The round table event took place on 19 November 2013, in Geneva, Switzerland.

A Global Round Table on Pollutant Release and Transfer Registers, chaired by Belgium and Japan, will be held on 19 November 2013 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. The event is co-organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), in cooperation with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) with a view to promoting the transfer of knowledge and fostering environmental democracy around the globe. It demonstrates remarkable synergies between the three organizations, which have matched capacities and expertise for the first time to co-organize a joint meeting.

Basic statistics on usage of Aarhus Clearinghouse
Aarhus Clearinghouse has become an important platform for news and resources on public participation in environmental decision-making. This environmental democracy tool promotes news and resources relevant to public's right to access environmental information, participate in environmental decision-making and achieve justice on environmental matters. Basic statistics on usage of Aarhus Clearinghouse have been recently prepared by the Aarhus Convention secretariat. The results show that over 6000 people annually use the Aarhus Clearinghouse tool in order to obtain more information relevant to the pillars of Aarhus Convention. Court rules against the European Commission for refusing access to environmental information
